Sensitivity of large air shower experiments for new physics searches

Presenter: B. Tomé ([email protected]), por-tome-B-abs1-he23-oral Searches for physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics are performed at accelerators worldwide. Although having poorer detection capabilities and large beam uncertainties, ultra high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) experiments present a unique opportunity to look for new physics far beyond the TeV. Nearly horizontal energetic...

Qed⊗qcd Resummation and Shower/me Matching for Lhc Physics *

We present the theory of QED⊗QCD resummation and its interplay with shower/matrix element matching in precision LHC physics scenarios. We illustrate the theory using single heavy gauge boson production at hadron colliders.

Finding nuclear localization signals.

A variety of nuclear localization signals (NLSs) are experimentally known although only one motif was available for database searches through PROSITE. We initially collected a set of 91 experimentally verified NLSs from the literature. Through iterated 'in silico mutagenesis' we then extended the set to 214 potential NLSs. This final set matched in 43% of all known nuclear proteins and in no kn...

Finding events in noisy signals

We produce a formal description of the problem of finding events in noisy signals. The particular problem of finding action potentials in noisy electrophysiological recordings is examined, and a method based on simulation of the underlying processes is used to assess different signal interpretation techniques. We discuss the broader application of this approach.
